Walk Before You Run With Monitor Status Speech Therapy
Few things are more challenging (and rewarding!) than raising children. Learning that your child requires therapy - any consistent weekly therapy - can really add to those day-to-day challenges. Yes, sometimes it is unavoidable and you or your family will require regular visits with your therapist. And by and large you should really trust your therapist to recommend the very best course of action - And if you don't, perhaps talk to a new therapist. But there are circumstances where placing children on Monitor Status is the right move.
Robin Blumberg, a seasoned Speech Therapist specializing in Early Intervention at Miller Therapy, is a huge proponent of placing children under three (3) years old on Monitor Status. She describes it in simple terms:
It's a great course of action for parents of 16-24 month old children. Children are developing so fast during that time while parents can fall victim to milestones that appear to be carved in stone. The reality is that a gentle nudge in the right direction by a trained professional can have a huge impact in those developing months. Why not try that first?
